Literary Monster Mashups

I just read this blog and thought you might be interested... I know some of the books they talk about are on the Penguin Classics list!

*"Monster Mashups" makes me think simultaneously of "the Monster Mash" and mashups from Glee!

  1. I'm not going to lie, these REALLY irritate me. Pride & Prejudice & Zombies was cute when it first came out, but now they have about 10 renditions of each book (yeah, I'm exaggerating, but I have seen two "Little Women" parodies). They also now have a graphic novel of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.. which is just ridiculous.

It frustrates me, to put it simply. Though I've never read them, my mom read P&P&Z, and she said it was funny and clever at first, but after about halfway through it was just the same thing.

I guess if that's what it takes to get people to actually read classics, then fine. But I don't appreciate that our society can't read classics without monsters.

  2. I was just intrigued because I had never read them before! I don't think I would read one unless I wanted to compare it to an original classic I had read. I didn't realize it was getting so carried away!
